Atelier Machinima : faites votre film avec des jeux vidéo

What if video games were to become a veritable tool for filmmaking?

Machinima (a contraction of machine and cinema) is a form of animated film made by recording sequences from video games. You play the game, record what's happening on screen and then edit the images to create an original animated short.

This workshop takes video games away from their usual uses and turns them into a means of artistic and critical expression. In groups, you'll discover how to tell a story, invent dialogue and stage a videogame universe like a real film.

A workshop led by Pierre Larvol, a cultural mediator specialising in video games and film.
Workshop open to outsiders

Each session takes you step by step through a complete creative process:

Introduction to machinima: origins, references, tools and examples;

Writing a script and choosing a game from a selection;

Capturing game sequences, editing with DaVinci Resolve and final screening.

The workshop takes place over three sessions from 6.15pm to 8.15pm:

Tuesday 3 March: introduction to machinima, tools and inspiration

Tuesday 10 March: writing, acting and recording sequences

Tuesday 17 March: editing and screening of the films made

Attendance at all three sessions is essential.

Please note: screening of the films made during Ateliers en scène on 31 March at 8.30pm at EVE-Scène universitaire.
