Roue Libre is a duo from Angers made up of saxophonist Thibaud Thiolon and guitarist Jean Gros, who navigate between jazz, contemporary music and pop. Nourished by references as diverse as Steve Reich, Steve Lacy, Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano, they build a musical language full of textures and nuances, mixing sampling, effects and orchestral arrangements. Somewhere between written music and improvisation, their chamber music approach cultivates both precision and a taste for risk. On stage, their universe of sound is extended by a singular scenography - bicycle wheels set in motion by motors - evoking the cycle, repetition and trance, in perfect resonance with their musical aesthetic.
