Conférence - Lionel Royer (1852-1926) peintre né à Château-du-Loir

Lionel Royer painted the famous Vercingétorix devant César, preserved in Le Puy-en-Velay, and the Vie de Jeanne d'Arc in the Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc basilica in Domrémy. A salon painter, he approached portraiture, history, mythology and religious painting with both academicism and passion. The lecture will present Lionel Royer's religious work, its influences, characteristics and legibility at the crossroads of history and patriotism: paintings notably preserved in Le Mans, Parigné-le-Pôlin, Château-du-Loir/Montval-sur-Loir, Ruillé-sur-Loir/Loir-en-Vallée. Duration: 1 hour. Free, no reservation required.
