Concert : Musiques et Chants du Bassin Méditerranéen
Synchroma: Echoes from East and West Featuring Maria KANAVAKI, Christos PAVLIS, Malik ZIAD and Guillaume KLAVAL - Hiraeth (Part 1) Featuring Pelin BASAR and Caner SEZGIN
Traditions can only continue to exist if they are able to adapt to the changes brought about by history and the flows of human migration.
The result of a creative residency organised by the CPFI – Musiques du Monde, centred on the Cretan composer Maria KANAVAKI, this concert takes the audience on a journey around the Mediterranean. Maria KANAVAKI invites us to discover the vitality of this timeless music, accompanied by renowned musicians such as Christos PAVLIS (guitars, baglama, Cretan lute…), Malik ZIAD (mandola, oud, guembri…), and Guillaume KLAVAL (clarinet, kaval, ney…).
In this musical encounter, rich with European and Eastern flavours, the voices take centre stage, unfolding against a backdrop of Mediterranean and Balkan polyrhythms interwoven with strings and wind instruments. Nostalgia, hope and joy invite us on this journey, brimming with rhythm and warmth, towards the one country that unites us all: the World.
Hiraeth is a duo comprising Pelin BASAR (ney and vocals – formerly a member of the Turkish National Orchestra) and Caner SEZGIN (multi-instrumentalist and composer).
Having been immersed from a very early age in the melodies of Ottoman classical and Sufi music, as well as the folk music of Anatolia and the surrounding regions, these two musicians perform this repertoire with a unique contemporary approach.
