Flower power

Réserver

A fascinating exploration of the role of flowers in the history of art, culture and politics.

Flora surrounds us, whether in our gardens or out in the countryside, and it is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for art. This lecture explores the rich language of flowers – a motif steeped in hidden messages and specific cultural associations: a grand, sensual display, brimming with symbolic and romantic blooms, both wild and cultivated, which form essential ingredients in pharmacopoeia, perfumery, food and crafts. Finally, from the Carnation Revolution to the Jasmine Revolution, via the Socialist Party’s rose, flowers have always accompanied political movements: a power that artists have widely embraced.
