Salon de musique : Musique dans l'Istanbul ottomane

The trio comprising Çaglar Fidan, Pelin Basar and Nikos Papageorgiou takes you on a journey through Ottoman and Turkish music, which began to take shape in Istanbul in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The works performed are by composers of various faiths who were born or lived in Ottoman Istanbul.

The repertoire draws its inspiration from everyday life in the city: songs heard in cafés and taverns, in popular walking areas, in the theatres of Beyoglu or during moonlit nights on the Bosphorus, as well as compositions by musicians from the city’s various social strata.

Through these works, the rich and diverse musical landscape of Ottoman Istanbul is brought to life.
